Ordering reproductions
All orders must distinguish purchase of reproductions (technical costs) from use of the documents reproduced, which, when it is commercial, is subject to authorisation and payment of a fee, invoiced and paid independently of work carried out.
Commercial use is deemed to mean any use of documents conserved at the BnF, whether or not they are in the public domain, in a publication to be sold (except for academic and scientific works), an exhibition, an audiovisual production, a paying service or product, a service invoiced to a third party, or a promotional or commercial medium.
Non-commercial use of documents or their use in an academic or scientific publication is free of charge, providing the source is acknowledged: BnF or Bibliothèque nationale de France. An academic or scientific publication is deemed to mean one published in the context of academic research work.
The use of documents for publications for primary and secondary education and documentary bases that commercialise large digital corpora is not free of charge.
