Le Projet NewsEye, dont la BnF est partenaire, remporte le Prix européen du patrimoine / Prix Europa Nostra 2024 dans la catégorie « Recherche »

Launched by the European Commission in 2002, in partnership with Europa Nostra - Europe’s largest heritage network - the European Heritage Awards / Europa Nostra Awards highlight each year outstanding European personalities, initiatives and projects in the field of cultural heritage.

In 2024, 26 winners have been awarded the prestigious award, including NewsEye, A Digital Investigator for Historical Newspapers , which has significantly improved access to and analysis of European historical newspapers from 1850 to 1950 through the use of artificial intelligence.

Running from May 2018 to February 2022, the project brought together the Laboratoire informatique image et interaction (L3i) at La Rochelle University, the project coordinator, the national libraries of Austria, Finland and France, and the universities of Helsinki, Innsbruck, Paul Valéry Montpellier 3, Rostock and Vienna.

The BnF is delighted with this award and congratulates all its partners for this distinction which highlights the importance of European and transdisciplinary cooperation, as well as the importance of research and innovation in artificial intelligence for heritage data and for the humanities and social sciences.
